Programs, Classes, and Events

One of the main goals of LiveAgeWell is to offer programs focused on issues relating to aging well. We hope that many of the topics appeal to a broad audience of EBA residents, no matter their age. Here you will find a list of upcoming events and past streamable LiveAgeWell programs. (We are hoping to be able to record future programs that can be watched on this website.) You will also find current and future offerings from organizations beyond our building that we feel may be of interest. Given the pandemic, most programs are streamable, and links will be provided. All events occurring in "real space" will be noted as such.

Tony Chung's Presentations on Computer and Internet Basics for Seniors

Tuesday, March 26 and Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 7:00 pm

We know how important computers can be in our daily lives and how many people now use them to perform basic tasks, from shopping online to paying bills, playing games, banking, taking and sharing pictures, staying in touch with family and friends, making online medical appointments, and much more.

And yet for people new to computers, especially seniors, the knowledge and skill required can seem intimidating. We at LiveAgeWell are aware that some EBA residents have not yet learned the basics of computer and internet use. If you find yourself among them, join fellow EBA resident Tony Chung, professor of computer science at DePaul University for a program that will cover such topics as: What is a computer? What is software? What is the desktop, and how do I navigate it? What is the internet? What is a browser? How do I search to find the information I'm looking for?

Brain/Health Initiative: Music and the Mind

Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 4--5:30 pm

The two speakers in our upcoming program have excellent reasons to believe that participating in musical activities, such as singing in a choir, has significant benefits in delaying or preventing dementia and other consequences of aging. Rev. Dr. Sandy Miller and Jonathan Miller, founders of the Sounds Good/Good Memories Choirs, which serve over 350 older adults in nine non-audition choirs in Chicago and the suburbs, have partnered with Northwestern Medicine's Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease to study the impact of choral singing on older adults. Join us for an update on this exciting research.
